Splatoon

A tl;dr haiku Squid related puns Something with calamari? Whatevs. Game is fun.   Time for squids! Time for shooting squids. Time for fresh squids. Ha ha! Get it? Like, fresh as in the slang for an admired and novel idea but also fresh as in seafood? Cause they’re squids? Nintendo / 10 humor. Fantastic. Expect other such naming conventions, as well as fun gameplay and a surprisingly competent online mode if you choose to pick up Splatoon by Nintendo for the Wii U.   Giving a fish Gonna be upfront with my bias here: I’ve been excited for this game since I saw the trailer that was released at E3 2014. With that out of the way, I love what’s been delivered here. Splatoon is a third person shooter with more wackiness than grit that makes its living with a fast-paced chaos that somehow still feels controlled. Kind of ...

Tales From Rivia, Entry 02

While I was in  Blackbough I was contracted by a hunter named Niellen to find his wife Hannah. Apparently, she disappeared five days ago somewhere in the the woods to the North. By all accounts, no one knows why she would have traveled into the woods at night, but apparently she did. It seems odd to me that a hunter doesn’t know how to track, but whatever, as long he is willing to pay I’m willing to use my talents to find his wife. By the time I finished my interviews with all those who might know her location it was well past midnight and raining. Damn rain. It soaked me to the bone. On my way North I found an abandoned house to lodge in for the night. If memory serves, this was a bandit hideout that I made short work of a few days past. Now I’ll use ...

Tales From Rivia, Entry 01

I can’t meditate through the night in this damn rain. Might as well continue the search for Ciri. No matter where I go, no one seems to know anything. Everyone is busy trying to keep their lives together. So, its not surprise they know nothing.  They wouldn’t have hired a Witcher if it was an easy task. Before this cursed rain started I was traveling from Blackbough to Crows Perch, and I smelled something god awful, rotting corpses. I didn’t even need my witcher senses to tell what direction it was coming from. Even Rouch was disgusted. He almost bucked me from the saddle in objection. I knew he didn’t want me to investigate, but I couldn’t just leave such a stench alone. If I could smell the corpses without my enhanced senses, it means Ghouls were not very far behind. If only it was that simple… Instead of Ghouls, ...

Tales From Rivia, Entry 00

Inspired by by a recent conversation with Samm and my enjoyment of the Witcher 3, I’ve decided to try writing something a little different in an article series I’m calling Tales From Rivia. In it I will detail some of Geralt’s lesser known adventures in the Witcher 3. They will be written in first person, from the perspective of Geralt as if he were chronicling his own journey. As such, the articles will not have my usual tone, hopefully replaced by who I perceive Geralt to be. There may be times where the language used may be NSFW. There also may be some minor spoilers from the game, but I will strive to stay away from all critical path spoilers. Included with each entry will be a screenshot or two from the game as it pertains to the entry. The frequency of each article will largely depend on how much ...

The Witcher Wild Hunt Impressions

It’s 12:30AM on Tuesday May 19th, and I have just sat down to write an impressions article on The Witcher Wild Hunt, the third installment in The Witcher series, expertly crafted by CD Projekt Red. Normally I’m not a night owl, but this game demands it. If I don’t write my thoughts down now they will be lost to the ether, flooded by new witcher experiences tomorrow. That prospect both scares and excites me. It has been a long time since a game has evoked those emotions simultaneously. There is nothing quite like it. I am only four and a half hours into the game, and I feel like there is already so much to say. My god, this game is beautiful. I don’t have an insanely powerful machine. I am only able to run the game on high (not ultra). Yet, I can easily say this is the most beautiful ...
